Johnson retired this spring and coached football at MBHS for nine years.

Monday, June 5, 2023 – Former Mountain Brook football assistant coach, Tony Johnson, has been named the recipient of the 2023 High School Broyles Award for the state of Alabama. This award honors the top high school assistant football coach in every participating state across the country, projecting their excellence onto the national stage.

Johnson coached at Mountain Brook as an assistant for nine years before retiring this spring. In those nine seasons, the Spartans amassed a record of 75-36-2. He played a key role in leading the Spartans to the 6A state championship game in 2022.
