Becca Pigg is Crestline Elementary School's 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year. 

Jan. 15, 2021 — Becca Pigg has only taught at Crestline Elementary School for the past three years. But she has already made a significant impact on the teachers and students who call the campus home.

In recognition of her excellence, Pigg’s colleagues selected her as Crestline’s 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year.

“I am very humbled and honored to serve Crestline,” Pigg said. “It just means a lot to be able to represent a school that really makes our kids the focus.”

Pigg is the daughter and granddaughter of professional educators and considered becoming a teacher from an early age. In second grade, she even completed a school project in which she identified teaching as her dream career.

“I always had a passion for working with kids,” Pigg said. “I grew up at my church serving in children’s ministry, so that was where I had that strong connection with students.”

Pigg earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Troy University before beginning her career at Jeter Primary School in her hometown of Opelika.

It didn't take her long to shine.

She was named the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2017-2018, the year before she came to Crestline.

“Not only does she put kids first, not only does she challenge herself and have high expectations for her kids, she’s just strong at her craft,” Crestline Principal Christy Christian said. “She represents us well.”

Pigg taught third grade language arts and social studies her first two years at Crestline. Before the current school year, she transitioned to a second-grade classroom where she now covers every subject with her students.

Christian said Pigg is a quiet leader who reflects, collaborates, and adapts to every situation.

“She’s a learner at heart,” Christian said.

Pigg’s desire to serve her students drives her to be the best teacher she can be. Ultimately, she said, they are the ones who make Crestline so special.

“They just work hard and are really the heart of everything that we do,” Pigg said.
