The Spartans have won 17 straight matches, including 9 consecutive shut-outs entering the playoffs.

Thursday, April 28, 2022 – The Mountain Brook varsity boys soccer team continued its winning ways as they defeated Indian Springs, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon at Protective Stadium. The victory pushes the team’s win streak to a school-record 17 matches, including 9 consecutive shutouts.

“This was an amazing opportunity for our guys to have the chance to play in this environment,” head coach Joe Webb said. “Every single one of our players saw the field and it was a great way to close out the regular season.”

Joe Armstrong found the net in the 53rd minute off of a penalty kick for the Spartans. Just 10 minutes later, an on-goal (credited to Hurley Smith) gave Mountain Brook a 2-0 advantage.

This was Webb’s 450th win as head coach of the Spartans and win number 470 of his career. The unique opportunity to play in Birmingham’s new stadium is something the players didn’t take for granted either. After the match, the Spartans went upstairs to the club level and enjoyed watching the Birmingham Legion defeat the Charleston Battery, 2-1.

“I’m thankful to everyone that made this happen and am happy for our players to have had this experience,” Webb said.

The Spartans (ranked No. 6 nationally and No. 1 in Alabama per MaxPreps) begin their playoff run tonight hosting Jasper at Mountian Brook High School. The start time is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the upper field.
