Thursday, August 11, 2022 – Mountain Brook Schools welcomed back over 4,300 students to begin the 2022-23 school year on Wednesday. Teachers and staff returned to campus on August 1 – though many had already been hard at work this summer – to ensure the best school year yet.
“It’s great to have our students back in the buildings, and we’re thankful that even in some construction, our students have a welcoming and safe place to learn,” MBS Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow said. “Our focus this year remains engaging our students to grow and learn through their educational experience.”
Secondary students enjoyed seeing the updates of major construction renovations that took place over the summer and throughout the last year and a half.
“It looks like an airport,” one high school student said of the newly renovated, two-story building at MBHS.
The new building at the high school has replaced what were the 200 and 300 hallways. The building is home to 43 brand new classrooms, conference rooms, and an open indoor amphitheater called the ‘Spartan Commons’ that opens into the mall.
Mountain Brook Junior High students can now easily maneuver the building as new hallways have been constructed to improve flow and movement throughout the school. The first meal was served in the school’s newly expanded cafeteria and the media center welcomed students into a renovated study environment.
Schools district-wide saw improvements over the summer including, but not limited to flooring, lighting, and painting. Check out some of the pictures below, as well as the video recap of the first day!
