MBS recognizes Teacher Appreciation Week 

Mountain Brook Schools Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow holds teachers in the highest regard. 

He used to be one, and he knows how much value they bring to the school system through their creativity, innovation, and dedication. 

“They’re the ones who think about, ‘How can I help students excel and become who they should and can be?’” Barlow said. 

Although campuses are currently closed due to COVID-19, Barlow and the rest of the MBS leadership team want teachers to know how prized they are during National Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs May 4-8. 

“I am grateful to work with teachers who genuinely care for their students and who hold themselves to high expectations,” MBS Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Missy Brooks said. “Our teachers work incredibly hard to ensure that our students receive an education that is second to none.”

The approximately 400 teachers in MBS play a vital role in the school system’s enduring prominence. Mountain Brook consistently ranks among the top districts in the country at both the elementary and secondary levels. 

Recently, U.S. News and World Report ranked Mountain Brook High School among the top 1% of non-magnet high schools nationally.

Mountain Brook's commitment to excellence hasn't wavered amid COVID-19. Since transitioning to eLearning in April, MBS teachers have remained steadfast in providing all students with an effective, challenging, and engaging education.

“What I’ve seen through this is that they haven’t said, ‘Let me just do the bare minimum,’” Barlow said. “When we had our virtual learning conference, I heard teacher comments saying, ‘Oh my goodness, now that I’ve learned these strategies, it’s going to make me a better teacher.’”
