Abenoja Wins DYW of Jefferson County

  • July 19, 2021 -- Julianne Abenoja, a rising senior at Mountain Brook High School, won the title of ‘Distinguished Young Woman of Jefferson County 2022.’ The Jefferson County Distinguished Young Women’s program took place at John Carroll Catholic High School on Saturday evening.

    “Distinguished Young Women of Jefferson County is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women,” according to the DYW website. With her performance, Abenoja won $4,400 in tuition scholarships.

    Julianne was one of 16 young women from around Jefferson County to participate in the local program. The event featured five categories: interview, talent, fitness, scholastics and self-expression. Abenoja’s talent was Ballet Solo En Pointe (Gaîté Parisienne Variation, by Angela Walker).

    In addition to her overall title, Abenoja was the overall winner in the fitness and scholastic categories. She was also an interview, self-expression and talent winner in the preliminary round.

    Julianne will represent Jefferson County at the 2022 Distinguished Young Women Program in Montgomery on January 21-22, 2022. More information on Abenoja can be found on the DYW website.
