Monday, February 20, 2023 -- The Mountain Brook High School varsity wrestling team wrapped up a historic season over the weekend with a third-place finish in the state tournament. Two Spartans, Allen Baker, and Stephen Springfield made it to the championship match for their weight class and earned a runner-up spot, while three other Spartan wrestlers, William Courtenay (3rd), Coleman Bates (4th), and Jack Windle (4th), earned a medal in their weight class.
In addition, Stuart Andrews and Bill Bradford finished in 6th place. Overall, seven Spartans placed in the state tournament out of the 13 representing the program who qualified for the tournament, following the team's second-place finish in the South Super Sectional meet the week prior.
The historic season for the Spartans started with a win in the duals state title in January, which was the program's first state championship in history. The team's impressive performance in the state tournament is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
Congratulations to the Spartan wrestlers on a tremendous season!
