MBS Students Compete in District Spelling Bee

January 13, 2022 – Five Mountain Brook students competed in the 2022 District Spelling Bee Thursday morning inside the Mountain Brook Board of Education building. Mountain Brook Elementary sixth-grader Ben Brown, won the bee and earned a spot to represent Mountain Brook Schools in the Jefferson County Spelling Bee.
Ben’s winning word in the 14th round was ‘teenagers.’ The event consisted of the five winners across the MBS district (four elementary schools and the junior high). Alexander Ewers (BWF), Davis Perry (CBS), Trent Boehme (CES) and Olivia Mahoney (MBJH) competed with Ben to represent their respective schools.
Missy Cunningham, a history teacher at Mountain Brook High School, was the moderator for the bee. Additionally, Dr. Susan Cole, Cory Morris and Dr. Lisa Beckham served as the three judges for the event.
