  • Wednesday, March 16, 2022 – The Mountain Brook City Council surprised City Manager, Sam Gaston, by dedicating the council chambers in his name at their meeting on Monday night at City Hall.

“He is the foundation for which this city has grown for almost 30 years,” Mayor Stewart Welch said at the meeting. “He has a collaborative style of management that has served this city very well.”

Gaston has been the City Manager for Mountain Brook since June of 1993. Since then, he has helped the city grow through his relationships with community members. Recognized as a city leader, Gaston has also worked with thousands of Mountain Brook students during his time, leaving a positive impact and serving as an inspiration to many students. In nearly 30 years, many of those students have come back to live in the Mountain Brook community.

Gaston is not retiring or leaving Mountain Brook. Welch said at the meeting that he wanted to give city employees the recognition they deserve while they’re still working here.
