Thursday, January 5, 2023 -- Gordon Sargent, a 2021 graduate of Mountain Brook High School and current sophomore at Vanderbilt University, has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2023 Masters Tournament, Masters Chairman Fred Ridley announced this morning.

Sargent won the NCAA Division 1 Men's Individual Championship last spring and became the first freshman to do so since 2007. Sargent is ranked No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and today becomes the first amateur to accept a special invitation since Aaron Baddeley in 2000.

Gordon visited Mountain Brook Schools last summer to discuss his experience in the school system. "There's a standard of excellence and valuing school work (here)," Sargent said on a podcast interview.

The 2023 Masters Tournament is scheduled for April 3-9.
