December Board of Education Recognitions

At Mondy’s monthly Board of Education meeting, myriad students and faculty members were recognized in front of the BOE for their recent accomplishments, awards, and performances for and around the Mountain Brook School System.
Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country
- Both teams were presented after their successful season. The girls won the 6A state championship at the beginning of November while the boys finished runner-up. Reagan Riley and Clark Stewart finished first and second respectively in the girl's race. You can read more about their state performance here.
Mountain Brook Football
- Coach Chris Yeager and all 21 seniors were recognized for the Spartans’ successful season that came to completion in the 6A semifinals in late November. The varsity team posted a 12-2 record this season and won the 6A Region 5 title in the regular season. The Spartans won three playoff games before falling short to the eventual state champion, Clay-Chalkville Cougars, in the semi-finals.
MBHS Dorians
- Seniors Addison Wint, Catherine Guilsher, Emily Moore and Sarah Simon represented Mountain Brook by participating in the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
2022 Miss Olympian
- Julianne Abenoja, an MBHS senior, was crowned “Miss Olympian 2022” in late November at the annual pageant. Read more about the event by clicking here.
Theatre at Trumbauer
- The MBHS Theatre program had great success at the 81st Walter Trumbauer State Theatre Competition in early December. Click here for more information.
Casey Lancaster
- Casey Lancaster, the 9th-grade counselor at MBJH, was recognized for receiving the Alabama Counseling Association’s ‘Outstanding Member Award’ for 2021. Read more by clicking here.
Teachers of the Year
- Six teachers from across the district were named ‘Teacher of the Year’ at their respective schools during the month of November. Kristi Moncrief (Brookwood Forest), Whitney Babatunde (Cherokee Bend), Laura Rives (Crestline), Allyson Martin (Mountain Brook Elementary), Tami Genry (MBJH) and Ashley Van Beek (MBHS) were all named Teacher of the Year.
