March Board Recognitions


  • Tuesday, March 15, 2022 – Multiple groups of students were recognized for their recent successes and accomplishments at Monday’s Board of Education meeting held at the Charles Mason Building. See the list below for more details:

    State Superintendent Arts Festival

    MBS had two first-place winners in the State Visual Arts show this semester. Pryor Roberts won first place for the Grades 5-6, Category II. Sherrod Wilbanks won first place for Grades 9-10, Category II. Both students submitted their pieces under the ‘photography or computer-generated work’ category.

    Sword and Shield, Broadcasting Awards

    Students from MBHS were recognized for their recent awards from multimedia publications! The student newspaper, Sword and Shield, took home a majority of the awards at the Alabama Scholastic Press Association in February. The broadcasting students earned the following awards:

    • Superior in the Newscast category
    • 3rd Place News Anchor: Zach Touger
    • Honorable Mention Sports Anchor: Bud Sanders
    • 2nd Directing: Massey Cater
    • 1st Place Directing: Massey Cater and Ann Louise Rowe
    • Honorable Mention Videography: Zach Touger
    • Honorable Mention Feature Reporting: Lydia Loglisci 
    • Frederic Maldia won 1st Place Broadcast Human Interest Story
    • Zach Touger won 2nd Place News Anchor in the Timed Category

    Boys and Girls basketball

    The varsity boy and girls basketball teams were recognized for their outstanding seasons. The boys finished 29-5 overall and finished runner-up in the regional tournament. The girls finished the season 25-8 overall and made their first regional tournament appearance since 2016.
