Tuesday, December 13, 2022 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday afternoon at Crestline Elementary for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

Board members present: Jeffrey Brewer (President), Jenifer Kimbrough (Vice President), Nicky Barnes, Anna Comer and Daniel Odrezin

Board Meeting Agenda

The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting (November 14) and the most recent called board meeting (November 30).

Recognitions:

The MBHS jazz band welcomed everyone to the meeting and band director, Jason Smith, announced the All-State band members. Senator Dan Roberts delivered a resolution congratulating Dr. Barlow on being named the Alabama State Superintendent of the Year. The MBHS and MBJH Choirs were recognized for their students who were named to the All-State Choir. Anna Bella Foster was recognized for winning the 2023 Miss Olympian Pageant. Boys soccer head coach, Joe Webb, was recognized for being named the NFHS Alabama State Coach of the Year from last spring’s season.

Reports to the Board:

MBS Facilities Director, Tommy Prewitt, and Brasfield and Gorrie’s Mike Culwell presented their monthly construction update to board members. Then, the MBS CSFO Kari Austin presented the board members with the school district’s monthly financial statements. MBS Student Services Director, Amanda Hood, presented a recap of the All In Mountain Brook Student and Parent Conference that took place in November.

Old business:

The new standards for Career Prep were unanimously approved.

New business: 

The board unanimously approved the latest personnel changes and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold. The MBS policy G-16 regarding Staff Reimbursement for Travel was presented to the board members and tabled for community review and input.

December announcements:

Winter break for MBS will take place December 19-30. Students return on January 4.

The next Board Meeting will take place on Monday, January 9th at 3:30 p.m. at Mountain Brook Elementary School.
