MBCSF Board Approves 2021-2022 Annual Grant To MBS

  • The Foundationโ€™s endowment fund now exceeds $11 million.

  • September 2, 2021 -- The Mountain Brook City Schools Foundationโ€™s Board of Directors voted on their annual grant to Mountain Brook Schools at the MBCSF board meeting on Monday, August 23. A gift of $461,168 was approved for use during the 2021-2022 school year in the areas of technology, library enhancement, and professional development.

Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 during the past school year, the Foundation fundraised its highest total to date: $549,332.24. As a result of community donations, the Foundationโ€™s endowment fund now exceeds $11 million, allowing it to serve the school system in an abundance of ways.

โ€œThe Foundationโ€™s goal this year in response to COVID-19 was to support our teachers and students by providing them with the resources needed for an enriched education as they learned from the classroom and home,โ€ MBCSF President Key Hudson explained. โ€œThis would not have been possible without our generous donors, and it is exactly why the safety net of the Foundationโ€™s Endowment Fund exists.โ€

The largest portion of this yearโ€™s grant, more than $200,000, will be used on Chromebooks for all Mountain Brook students and teachers. Another allocation of the funds will support Mountain Brookโ€™s annual teacher summer learning conference and the Institute for Innovation. Nearly $60,000 of the grant will supplement technology in the districtโ€™s secondary-level math classrooms. It will also contribute to the purchase of Overdrive, a Destiny Cloud Based Server, and Google Enterprise for Education for the district.

โ€œWe could not serve our students the way that we do without the Foundationโ€™s contributions,โ€ Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow said. โ€œThey have allowed the school system the ability to innovate and improve learning in a manner that is second to none.โ€
