Girls Indoor Track Wins State Title, Boys Finish Third

  • The varsity girls now have 23 indoor track state championships, tied with St. Paul's for the state record.


  • Monday, February 6, 2023 -- The Mountain Brook Spartans' hot streak of state championships continued over the weekend as the varsity girls Indoor Track team won its 23rd state championship in program history, tying St. Paul's for the state record. The Spartans' title is their first indoor track championship since 2019. The boys team had an impressive third-place finish, one spot ahead of where they finished as a team last season.

    Reagan Riley (1600m), Lucy Benton (800m), the girls 4x800m relay team (9:45.42) and the girls 4x400m relay team (4:05.33) all won individual/team relay state championships. Callie Kent, MK Malone, Kenndey Hamilton and Riley made up the 4x800 team while Kent, Malone, Benton and Ellie Fooshee made up the 4x400 relay team.

    Riley, a senior Notre Dame signee who was recently named the state's Girls Cross Country Gatorade Player of the Year, now has 17 total state championships to her name (11 individual, 6 team/relay) spanning across cross country, indoor track as well as outdoor track.

This is the 183rd state championship in Mountain Brook High School athletics history, more than any other school in the state of Alabama.
