Putnam County High School is proud to announce that Reed Valentine, a standout student-athlete from Unionville, MO, has officially signed his National Letter of Intent to play college football for the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats. The transition from #PutnamProud to #RollCats marks a shift from the blue and white colors of his high school to the purple and black of his future alma mater in southwest Missouri.

Reed's connection to football runs deep, as he was born into a family passionate about the sport. Growing up watching and admiring the Chiefs, along with family members actively involved in football, Reed's own journey began in 4th grade when he started playing tackle football. Inspired by the achievements of his older family members, particularly watching his cousin, Ryan Valentine, earn an all-state honor, Reed developed a strong desire to compete.

Recalling his early years in football, Reed highlights the vibrant and competitive atmosphere fostered by his coach, Jason Valentine, during elementary football. Winning an undefeated season became a cherished memory. Transitioning to junior high, Reed fondly remembers another undefeated season in 7th grade with Coaches Jeremy Watt and Chuck Evans, adding a layer of fun to his football journey.

A favorite memory from Reedโs Senior year of football was a notably triumphant homecoming game against Galitan with a monumental score of 52-8. The unexpected win, considering the team's previous record, stands out as a testament to resilience. Reed also treasures his freshman year homecoming start and a standout performance, creating lasting memories.

The pivotal moment in Reed's journey came during a college fair hosted by Mrs. Fleshman at Putnam County R-I School District. A football helmet at the Southwest Baptist University booth caught Reed's attention. Little did he know, that this encounter would shape his future. After expressing interest, the school reached out, invited him for a game, and eventually offered him a scholarship. Reed's positive experience during visits and a strong connection with the school's atmosphere solidified his decision to join the Bearcats.

Reed Valentine, born in Ames, Iowa, has a great affection for the Chiefs, Cyclones, and the Missouri Tigers. He extends deep gratitude to his parents for their unwavering support. Outside of high school and dual enrollment coursework, where he excels as one of the top achievers in his class, Reed values time with friends, family, his girlfriend, and spends some free time playing video games. Reed plans on earning a Bachelor's degree in engineering and then pursuing a career as an engineer or continuing his education to become an attorney and return to Putnam County.

The Putnam County R-I School District proudly congratulates Reed Valentine on this significant milestone. The #PutnamProud community gathered, including Reed's family, coaches, and friends, for a celebratory event in the PCHS Library. KTVO's Caelan McGee even captured an interview with Reed, making the day even more special.
In the spirit of Putnam County Pride, we wish Reed Valentine continued success and fulfillment as he embarks on this new chapter with the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats this fall.
