Morning Bins for Skill Building
This summer I was the recipient of $500 in partnership funds from the Community Action Partnership of North Central Missouri. With this generous grant I was able to purchase a huge variety of "toys" that will help develop many skills for my first-grade students. The toys range from a variety of STEM building toys, puzzles, play sand, lacing beads and cards, poms with oversize tweezers to reading group materials like magnetic wands and phonics games. I was able to purchase storage bins as well. The toys were each placed in a labeled bin and every morning students start their day with a different bin. What feels like play to them is really building skills! The lacing activities and poms with tweezers build fine motor skills to develop important muscles used in writing, as well as critical thinking and hand-eye coordination. The STEM toys teach perseverance, creativity, problem solving and reasoning. The students love starting our day off with play! I love watching their skills develop. Thank you to CAPNCM for your generous grant!
