Kindergarten News!
Dear Parents,
First of all, thank you so much to the room parents, treat senders, etc. that made our fall party a tremendous success! I know the students had a wonderful time, and I am truly grateful for all your help and support!
Communication Arts: This week we completed Theme 2, Colors All Around. We continued working on beginning sounds and counting words in oral/written sentences. We also met two new alphafriends, Reggie Rooster and Andy Apple, for the letters Rr and Aa. In addition, we continued practicing making inferences/predictions, discussed sequence of events, summarized, and compared/contrasted details about stories we read. Lastly, we reviewed/learned the following high-frequency words: I, a, see, my, like, and color words; discussed singular and plural nouns; and learned a new word family: the -at family (cat, bat, rat, etc.).
Math: This week we compared groups and numbers to determine if they were greater than, less than, or equal. Also, in your child’s folder, you will find a letter regarding a math website your child can use at home (www.ixl.com/signin/putnam) to practice math skills.
Another Highlights Magazine Form! In your child’s folder, there is a flyer regarding offers from Highlights. There is absolutely no obligation to subscribe/buy (and I don’t receive any commission 😊) However, I would really appreciate it if your child would return the back of the form signed at the bottom to school on Monday. Whether you mark “yes” or “no,” we will earn free supplies for our classroom depending on how many of the slips are returned. The students are really enjoying the free smelly stickers we received from the last signed forms that you returned! Thank you!
Snow: If there is any snow on the ground, students will need SNOW boots and snow pants during recess. Otherwise, they will be expected to stay on the sidewalks to play. Also, please send an extra pair of shoes with your child when there’s snow on the ground so they don’t have to wear their boots and track through the school, especially on our carpet. If they don’t have an extra pair, we don’t let them get in the snow because of the mess it makes in the classroom and halls. Lastly, please make sure your child brings a hat and gloves every day.
