Senior Spotlight Time!
Help us congratulate Class of 2023 PCHS Senior, Miss Makayla Gilbert!

Makayla's favorite quote: ""If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."-Wayne Dyer
Makayla has participated in Art Club, NHS, Journalism, Yearbook, Track, FCCLA, and Basketball.
We asked Makayla what her advice would be for incoming freshmen. She said, "My advice for incoming freshmen would be to enjoy everything. It's going to fly by. Make as many memories as you can and try to be as involved as possible. If you don't include yourself you won't get the full high school experience. Try things that are out of your comfort zone. Just get out there and I promise it will all be worth it. Also, try to take as many of the "hard" or "boring" classes in your first three years, then your senior year will be a blast."
Makayla's funniest memory from high school: "There is no way I could ever just pick one memory, but I would have to say anything that has happened when I was with Caley, or just being in Ms. Tosspon's class in general. Anything that happens when those two are around is undeniably funny."
Makayla told us, "After graduation, I plan to attend Northwest University to pursue a degree in elementary education."
We asked Makayla what her favorite class was at Putnam. She told us, "Although this isn't really a class, my favorite class I have taken at Putnam was my A+ tutoring class. Not just because I didn't get homework, but because I have created a bond with every 4th grader that I helped tutor and I am so thankful that I was assigned to this class. It really sparked my passion for helping children, whether it be actual homework help or if they just need help in general, I will always be there for them."
When asked where she sees herself in 5-10 years, Makayla replied, "In 5 years, I see myself teaching 4th Grade students, hopefully in a town bigger than Unionville. I also hope to keep in contact with all of my hometown friends."
Makayla told us about her most memorable moments: "My most memorable moment at Putnam was just being a Senior in general. This year is by far the most fun I have ever had at school and I actually find myself excited to come sometimes. It's like every day something new or funny happens. It has also just been a real eye-opener as I am about to move on to a new chapter of my life."
We asked Makayla what teacher or staff member at Putnam has had the biggest impact on her and why. She replied, "All of the staff members at Putnam County have helped make all of my years in school great, but Ms. Tosspon has really helped me the most this year. She is a teacher that I can always rely on for anything, plus she is one of the funniest and most interesting people I have ever met. She is always willing to help any student in need. I would also like to shout out Mrs. Huse in the elementary. She teaches 4th grade, and I was her A+ tutor for the first semester of school, and I am now her tech assistant for the rest of the year. Mrs. Huse is an honest and genuine person. Being with her this year has made me realize that I also want to teach fourth graders. I would have loved to have her as my teacher, and I would like to thank her (and her class) for allowing me to be with them all year. Mrs. Huse and her class have definitely had an impact on me that will last forever."
Makayla would like to remind everyone to make sure to stop and smell the roses. <3
Congratulations, Makayla!
We are #PutnamProud of you!
