Roger Owings, UHS Class of 1975, to receive Legends of the Tri-Rivers Conference award!

Congratulations to UHS Class of 1975 alumnus, Roger Owings. Roger is being presented with the Legends of the Tri-Rivers Conference award at the Tri-Rivers Classic basketball tournament this Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Roger graduated from Unionville High School (Putnam County R-I) with the Class of 1975. He was a 4-year letterman in football, basketball, baseball, track, and golf.

Roger spent 1975-77 at Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University), where he was a member of the Bulldogs football team.

Roger began his 30+ year officiating career in football in 1979 and basketball in 1980, with many of those games in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

Roger officiated countless games throughout the state of Missouri. He always felt the quarterfinal games were the most exciting, as that is the game that gets you to State.

Some of his honors included: Football State Championship Games in Springfield, MO in 1990 and St. Louis, MO in 2003.

Roger was honored as Football Official of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Officials Association in 2005.

He officiated the following Basketball State Championship Games:

Springfield, MO 1990

Columbia, MO 1994

Columbia, MO 2004

Columbia, MO 2012

Roger is married to his wife, Terry (Hill) Owings (Class of 1975) and they have a son Dylan and a daughter Jentrie, both graduates of Putnam County R-I and former athletes in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

Academics and athletics are both important to the Owings family. Roger served on the PCR-I Board of Education for nine years, five of those years as President. Terry has worked for the PCR-I School District for 29 years, currently as secretary to the superintendent, Dr. Heath Halley, and recording secretary for the board of education.

After a 44 year career as a vet assistant and operating a cow/calf business, retirement is in the near future for Roger and his wife Terry. They will enjoy spending more time with their grandson Aidyn, and their granddaughters, Addison and Finley.

Many thanks to the Tri-Rivers Conference for this recognition!

It's neon theme at the games this weekend, so sport your favorite blue and white or neon colors while we cheer on our Midgets and celebrate Roger! The varsity girls will play the consolation game beginning at 3:00 pm and the varsity boys will play the championship game beginning at 4:30 pm. Both games will take place at Schuyler County R-I School.
