My Hometown American Hero
The Putnam County R-I Elementary PTO sponsored an essay contest for 5th-grade students again this year. Students were asked to write an essay describing their hometown American hero. The essays were judged by a retired principal and school teacher who thought everyone was a winner! They shared that all of the essays were well written and well done. It was hard for them to choose the winners, but selected the top three based on someone who served family and the community.
This year's 3rd place essay winner is Corbin and his essay was written about his grandpa Jerry Staples. Corbin will receive a check for $25.00 from the PTO.
The 2nd place winner goes to Bryna and she wrote about her grandma Janet Frink. She will receive a check for $50.00.
This year's 1st place winner is Katie and her hometown hero is Paul Riley. She will receive a check for $75.00.
We hope you enjoy the videos of the students reading their essays and a big thank-you to the PTO and the judges for making this possible. Congratulations to all of the students on a job well done.
