How can an agenda help your student?
Every student in middle school is given an agenda at the beginning of the year. These agendas are an excellent tool to help the students stay organized. Each day the students should be filling out their agendas in order to help themselves stay on track with their assignments. As a teacher, I check the students' agendas in Study Skills. As I walk around the room looking at the agendas I am asking myself the following questions:
1. Did the student write anything down?
2. If so, is she/he on the right date?
3. Did he/she write down enough information, that when at home later, the student could figure out what the original assignment was? (For example Math 1.3 doesn't really tell me what the assignment was. A better example would be Math 1.3 p.4 #1,5,10-15.)
I try to emphasize the importance of staying organized in middle school to the students. This will help them achieve good grades and set them up for success.
