Superintendent's Message - July 14, 2022

  • John Kopicki
    Greetings!

The 2022-2023 school year is upon us – even though many are still enjoying their summer break, students and staff at Wolf Meadow Elementary School begin the new school year on Tuesday, July 19th. Families are invited to attend the school’s Open House on Thursday, July 14th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Our School Nutrition department continues to provide meals to students during the summer. Children in Cabarrus County ages 18 and younger are eligible for the meals, which are available at a variety of locations.

We have spent the summer break preparing for the new school year – completing construction on Roberta Road Middle School and Cabarrus Health Sciences Institute, which are set to open in August, cleaning our buildings, and tending to our grounds.  Our staff has stayed busy with professional development to improve their skills and help hone their craft.

Next month, we will welcome students and staff at our early colleges, and then, later in the month, all students and staff will begin the new school year. Each school will host Open House events ahead of the start of the year. Check out the complete Open House schedule to put your school’s event on your calendar.

As you are preparing for the start of the new school year, please remember to complete the application for free and reduced meal benefits. Visit www.lunchapplication.com to complete the application electronically. You may also complete a paper application at your school. For more information about meal benefits, visit the School Nutrition Program website.

Our Board of Education met on July 11th for a Combined Work Session and Business Meeting. Rep. Kristin Baker was our special guest; we shared the district’s legislative agenda with her. You can review the legislative agenda and other items discussed at the meeting on BoardDocs. A recording of the meeting also is available on our YouTube channel.

A new school year always signals promise and possibility, and Cabarrus County Schools is overflowing with promise and possibility. There is no school system more equipped to prepare students for greatness, and I am honored to serve as your leader.

We are excited about the upcoming school year and look forward to making it a great one!

    Stay well,

    John
