A Message from Dr. Chris Lowder, Superintendent 12/04//2020It isn’t officially winter just yet, but you wouldn’t know it by the recent cold weather we’ve experienced. Frigid temperatures, ice, sleet and snow can wreak havoc on the school year calendar. To ensure that you understand our district’s procedures and plans, please refer to our Weather or Not resource. It’s located in the Useful Links section of our district website.COVID-19 data indicators are all trending at record high levels locally and across the state and nation. According to our partners at Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA), the current percent positive rate for COVID cases in Cabarrus County is 11.1%. Our school system has implemented a number of measures – temperature checks, mask requirements, social distancing, frequent hand washing – to protect the health and safety of our students and staff since our return to in-person learning (Plan B) on Oct. 19th.We are committed to continuing those efforts in our schools and buildings and ask that you do the same outside of school – wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands frequently. We also ask that you closely monitor your family’s health and stay home if you are experiencing COVID symptoms or feel unwell. Additionally, if you receive a call from CHA (704-920-1000), please answer the phone. Representatives are contacting you regarding COVID test results or for contact tracing reasons. As a reminder, you can find information about positive COVID cases in Cabarrus County Schools through our weekly report. The report, published at 5 p.m. on Mondays, includes the number of positive cases among students and staff in all of our schools, as well as our centralized services departments. You can access the report at: https://www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/covid19reporting. It is important to note that the report provides the number of confirmed positive cases for the previous week. We are providing information to parents and staff about positive cases as they are confirmed through our Blackboard Connect system. There is still time to apply for Program Choice for the 2021-22 school year. The deadline is Dec. 18th. Visit our Program Choice website at www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/programchoice to learn more about the program options. It won’t be long before we head out for winter break. Please stay safe, healthy and focused these next couple of weeks.ChrisChris Lowder, Ed.D.Superintendent
