I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Winter Break. We are moving closer and closer to the end of the first semester. High school students in our traditional schools begin their end-of-course (EOC) and CTE post-assessment exams today, and the second semester begins on Jan. 19th. Please remember that students are required to take these exams in person. You can find information about EOCs and CTE assessments on our district website. Additionally, each high school has information pertaining to its specific exam schedule posted on its school website.

Other preparations for the second semester are under way. Last month, we shared information about updates to our attendance guidelines, which become effective on Jan. 19th. Please make sure you review the new guidance.

Here are reminders about other important dates on the calendar this month:
    • Jan. 15th – Planning & Staff Development Day – No school for students
    • Jan. 18th – Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday – No school for students
    • Jan. 23rd – Board of Education Annual Planning Session
    • Jan. 27th – 2nd Quarter Report Cards

January is School Board Appreciation Month. Cabarrus County Schools is grateful to our Board of Education members for their service to our students and our system. Our board members are active, involved citizens who voluntarily give their personal time to support our district, students and staff. We appreciate their commitment and thank them for their dedication and service.
As we return from the break, we continue to see significant increases in the numbers of positive coronavirus cases across the state and in Cabarrus County. The percent positive rate here in Cabarrus County is 18.2% (as of Jan. 6, 2021). Although we are encouraged that a vaccine is now available in limited quantities, we must continue to be diligent about practicing preventive measures – wearing a mask when you’re around others, waiting 6 feet apart, washing your hands frequently and limiting your contact with people outside your household – which will help protect us all.

    Happy New Year!

    Chris
