    Greetings!

It's mid-March, and we are looking forward to the change of seasons. The official start of Spring is only a few days away.

We began the month with new protocols related to COVID-19 and with encouraging data for our district and our county. The Cabarrus County Board of Education voted to make masks optional while riding on school buses effective March 2nd. Changes also were made to contact tracing guidelines. These changes are based on recommendations from the Centers from Disease Control and Prevention and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Information about these changes, mitigation strategies for families and our district data can be found on our COVID information site.

Congratulations to Jay M. Robinson High School’s boys’ basketball team – State 2A Champions! The team played in the championship game on Saturday, March 12th at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. This team is a great group of talented athletes and exceptional competitors, who have displayed nothing but good sportsmanship and decorum throughout the season. It has been a pleasure to watch them play.

Jay M. Robinson High School also is home to a few more state champions. Congratulations also are in order for Robinson’s VEX Team 5139E who won the North Carolina VEX State Championship on March 12th. Robinson’s B and C Teams also won the State Design and State Create Awards respectively.

Throughout the month, our district will celebrate the arts with observances and events for Youth Art Month, Music in Our Schools Month and Theater in Our Schools Month. You are invited to visit our student art gallery on display at the Education Center weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. It also is performance season for our music and theater students. A schedule of various spring performances is available in our Upcoming Events calendar on our district website. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to enjoy an evening of the arts at the CCS Youth Arts Festival on April 1st from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Education Center. The evening will showcase our talented students’ visual and performing arts.

We also are celebrating School Social Work this month, and celebrated National School Social Work Week March 6-12. School Social Workers are committed to improving the educational success and the social and emotional development of all students. They offer a range of services including assessments, individual and group counseling, crisis prevention and intervention, parent education and training, collaboration with community agencies and organizations, program coordination, policy development and addressing barriers to student attendance. Cabarrus County Schools is grateful for our school social workers and thankful for their dedication and commitment to our students.
Looking ahead, here are some important dates for your calendars:
    • March 28th – Staff Development/Planning Day – No School for Students
    • April 1st – Youth Arts Festival
    • April 5th – Cabarrus County Career Connections Day
