A Message from Dr. Chris Lowder, Superintendent 09/10/2019
We have had a great start to the new school year. I enjoyed visiting all of our schools during the first week – meeting students and stopping in classrooms to listen in as teachers began the new year. The excitement and energy are palpable.
Cabarrus County Schools is fortunate to have outstanding community support for our students, staff and district. Once again this year, many organizations and community members graciously donated school supplies to help students begin the new year with essential items.
Additionally, Books-A-Million at Concord Mills and Carolina Mall sponsored book drives where customers purchased books to donate to our school system. The drives yielded hundreds of books, which will be distributed to our schools.
We are excited to begin our 10th year of the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month program and are thrilled to welcome back sponsors of our Impact Through Education Awards – AXA Advisors and the Cabarrus Regional Chamber.
I also want to say ‘thank you’ to the following organizations that served as Platinum Sponsors for the Cabarrus Spotlight Fair and New Employee Orientation events in August:- The Noelle Donovan Allen Tate Team
- AXA Advisors
- Cabarrus County Education Foundation
- Cabarrus Educator’s Association
- The Home Team Realty Group
- Sonny Simpson with Horace Mann
- Staples
- Charlotte Motor Speedway
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction released its 2018-2019 Accountability and School Performance Report on Sept. 4th. The report shows that 94% (34 schools) of all CCS traditional schools either Met or Exceeded academic growth for students. This is an increase of 5% from the 2017-2018 school year where 89% of schools Met or Exceeded academic growth. We are extremely pleased with these results and know that the work our teachers are doing in the classroom is challenging students to do more and learn more. The report also includes a variety of data including student proficiency for end-of-grade and end-of-course tests and graduation rate.
Congratulations to Stephanie Henderson, English teacher at Central Cabarrus High School, who has been named the 2019 Cabarrus County Schools Beginning Teacher of the Year (BTOY). The BTOY program is sponsored by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT).
Last, but certainly not least, be sure to check out our new safety video See You Tomorrow. The video provides an informative overview of our district’s safety measures and procedures. You can find it on our safety website or on our social media sites.
Thank you for supporting Cabarrus County Schools. We are looking forward to another great year.
Chris
