We are thrilled to announce that Wolf Meadow Elementary School Principal and CCS 2019-2020 Principal of the Year Jennifer Brinson has been selected as the 2020 Wells Fargo Southwest Region Principal of the Year! She will now participate, along with the seven other regional winners, in the state selection process for North Carolina Principal of the Year.

Congratulations to our 2020 District Spelling Champion Supriya Akella, an 8th grader at Harris Road Middle School. Supriya will now prepare to compete in The Charlotte Observer’s 66th Annual Regional Spelling Bee in February. We wish her good luck!

Congratulations also are in order for Air Force Junior ROTC instructors and cadets at Mount Pleasant High School for earning the highest rating attainable – Exceeds Standards – on their unit assessment.

I am excited to share that our district has received a $1.4 million grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Center for Safer Schools. The grant funds will be used for school resource officers, school safety equipment, student-in-crisis services and school safety training.

In other grant news, Cox Mill Elementary School received a $32,000 grant from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation Champions Grant program to create a Critical Thinking Lab in the school’s media center. The lab will include coding and robotics, virtual reality, a 3-D printer and brain games. The project will help students think critically about their schoolwork and beyond.

Cox Mill High School received a $73,000 Coding and Mobile App Development Program Grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The school is one of 15 recipients of the grant, which will be used to develop computer science, coding, and mobile app development programs for their students.
