    Greetings!

We’ve turned the page on the calendar to a new month – a month filled with important celebrations and observances.

Most notably is Black History Month, the annual celebration of the many accomplishments, achievements and contributions African Americans have made to our nation and our world. Cabarrus County Schools is proud to recognize and honor outstanding individuals whose courage, brilliance, and innovation shaped and changed history.

We also are celebrating Career and Technical Education Month. Cabarrus County Schools offers students a variety of courses and pathways designed to help them explore interests and pursue career options. Our district also has a dedicated staff of teachers, coordinators and academy leaders who work with our community to bring career opportunities to our students.

The week of February 7th is designated National School Counseling Week and focuses on the unique contributions made by school counselors and how students benefit from the work that they do. Cabarrus County Schools is proud of the work our school counselors do to help students achieve school success and plan for a career.

We also will celebrate our bus drivers and transportation department staff during the Love the Bus Week February 14th – 18th. It is no secret that our bus drivers are an integral part of our school system. They safely transport students to and from school every day and are supported by transportation department professionals who maintain our bus fleet and plan routes to ensure that we are operating efficiently.

Other important dates for your calendars:
    • February 21st – Presidents’ Day/Staff Development – No school for students
    • February 23rd – 3rd Quarter Progress Reports
    • March 5th – BOE Annual Planning Session (rescheduled date)

Congratulations to Weddington Hills Elementary School (WHES) on its recent designation as a National Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. WHES is one of only five elementary schools in North Carolina to receive this honor this year. Learn more about the program in this article.

As a reminder, masks are now optional in all CCS schools and buildings. This status became effective Tuesday, February 8th. More information is available here.

We are excited about the second half of the school year and appreciate your continued support.

    Stay well,

    John
