    Greetings!

Great things are happening in Cabarrus County Schools. Our staff, students and former students are being recognized for their accomplishments and achievements at the regional, state, and national levels. Here are just a few highlights:

    • Erin Anderson, principal at Harrisburg Elementary School, was recognized by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte during its International Women’s Day Celebration
    • James Davis, principal at W.M. Irvin Elementary School, received the 2022 N.C. Association for Middle Level Education (NCMLE) Higher Education Professional to Watch award and the NCMLE C. Kenneth McEwin Distinguished Service award
    • Mary Beth Roth, Chief Student Services and Compliance Officer, received her COVID-delayed NCMLE 2020 Administrator to Watch award
    • Cox Mill High School Graduates Leaky Black and Wendell Moore, Jr. made it to the NCAA Men’s Final Four with their respective college teams

I had the pleasure of celebrating Ashtyn Berry, our 2021 Teacher of the Year and the Southwest Region Teacher of the Year, at a special ceremony to name the state Teacher of the Year on April 1st.  Although Ashtyn did not win the title, we could not be prouder of her. She is an outstanding educator who cares deeply for her students. Cabarrus County Schools is honored to have her on our team.

Our celebration of the arts culminated with the CCS Youth Arts Festival on April 1st. Our students showcased their incredible talents in the performing and fine arts throughout the evening for family, friends, and the community. Along with financial support from the Cabarrus County Education Foundation, I was thrilled to add three new pieces of art to the Superintendent’s Collection. Congratulations (and thank you) to the artists whose pieces were named Superintendent’s Choice:

    • Jordan Yoxtheimer, Mount Pleasant Elementary School
    • Dakota Weaver, Hickory Ridge Middle School
    • Shyla Lutukurthi, Concord High School
