The
Mountain Brook High School Natural Helpers club is an organization for
students who would like to improve their listening skills. The program’s
intent is to improve the health and well being of young people through
education, peer listening, and referral. Members
represent a cross-section of students with whom others feel comfortable
discussing personal issues. Many students report that they were
already being sought out by their peers to discuss personal problems.
There are no academic requirements for membership; participation is
encouraged from all aspects of the student body.
Natural
Helpers are not professionally trained therapists, nor are they
expected to act as counselors. Members are encouraged to consult with
parents and other responsible adults on a regular basis and are required
to inform sponsors of any life-threatening and/or emergency situations
they may encounter.
