Mme. Sutherland fell in love with French and Francophone culture at Mountain Brook Junior High. Her enthusiasm only grew as she moved on to high school and did an exchange with a family in Paris (old friends of her MBHS French teacher) for two summers. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with High Honors in French from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in French and a minor in Hospitality and Tourism. While in college, she studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France and spent the following summer working in a bakery in the Latin quarter. She began her teaching career after graduating in 2013, teaching English at a high school in Paris. In 2014 she moved back to Charleston, got married and began teaching high school French for two years before accepting another opportunity to move back to France, where she spent the past three years teaching English at bilingual school in Paris. 

Mme. Sutherland moved back to Birmingham in the fall of 2021 and is currently working on a Masters degree in French Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As much as she loved living and teaching abroad, she is absolutely thrilled to be back teaching French--her true passion. Outside of school, Mme. Sutherland loves musical theatre, enjoying her husband's delicious cooking and watching Formula 1.  Bienvenue!
