15 candidates to speak with the board on August 5
The Eugene School Board is seeking to fill a vacant position following the June 30 resignation of board member Evangelina Sundgrenz, who moved out of state with her family. In accordance with state law and board policy, the board will appoint a district resident to complete the term, serving through June 30, 2021.
District residents were invited to apply between June 14–July 31, 2019. Sixteen district residents submitted applications to serve on the board. One candidate withdrew their application.
Candidate interviews: The Eugene School Board will interview all 15 applicants at a work session on Monday, August 5, from 6:10–9:15 p.m., in the following order:

Interviews were scheduled in the order that the candidate’s application was received.
Finalist interviews and appointment: At a work session on Thursday, August 8, board members will interview finalists starting at 5:30 p.m. Following the work session, the board will appoint the new school board member at the board meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
How to watch/listen: All school board meetings and work sessions are open to the public. The meetings and work sessions are held at the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St., and are live streamed and broadcast on the radio on KRVM 1280-AM.
Eugene School Board positions are non-partisan and are not connected to any specific region. Under Oregon law, board members must be registered voters in Eugene School District 4J, and must have lived in the district for at least one year immediately preceding their appointment. Applicants do not need to be parents of students in 4J schools. Employees of Eugene School District 4J and of charter schools within the district are not eligible for appointment.
