School Board Appoints Member to Vacant Seat

Jim Torrey selected to fill open position

The Eugene School Board once again has a full complement of seven members. After soliciting applications for more than 6 weeks, considering 15 candidates, conducting interviews, and selecting three finalists for second interviews and consideration, the school board voted on August 8 to fill the open position on the board.

The three finalists were Gary Campbell, Maya Rabasa and Jim Torrey. After two rounds of voting in the public board meeting on August 8, Jim Torrey was selected and sworn in to complete the board term vacated this summer when former board member Evangelina Sundgrenz moved out of state.

Mr. Torrey, who previously served on the board from July 2007 to June 2019, will serve in Position 6 through June 30, 2021.

During the selection process, board members shared their appreciation for all those who volunteered to serve our community in this role.
