District’s initial financial offer restores school days, eliminates layoffs and reduces class size
Eugene School District 4J on May 1 took the first major step forward in the bargaining process with the release of its initial contract proposal to its teachers union, the Eugene Education Association. The proposed three-year contract follows through on the school board’s goal to restore school days, eliminate layoffs and reduce class size.
“Eugene 4J schools have terrific staff, and we are committed to continuing our strong partnership with the district’s teachers and employees,” said Eugene School Board Chair Mary Walston. “With this initial offer, we avoid teacher layoffs, reduce the number of furlough days from last year and put needed resources back into the classroom.”
