Winter weather? If schools are closed or delayed or buses are on snow routes due to weather, the district will announce the change. If school is in session and on regular schedule, the district will NOT make an announcement.
There are several ways to learn if schools are closed: this website, www.4j.lane.edu; Twitter @4Jweather / text message alerts; KRVM 91.9 FM, and other local TV and radio stations.
School closure and bus route decisions normally are made early in the morning and announced by 6:30 a.m. This is to ensure the most current weather conditions are assessed. Decisions are made districtwide and are the same for every 4J school.
The terrain of the community and the distance away from school that both students and staff live make it impossible for the district to make a decision that is acceptable or appropriate to everyone. On any day when inclement weather is a concern and school is in session, families and staff are encouraged to consider road conditions in their areas and make their own decisions based on safety. Parents’ individual decisions about school attendance will be honored. Staff members have various leave provisions they can use when they believe they are unable to get to work safely.
