District issues request for proposals, due June 14
Voters in Eugene School District 4J have resoundingly passed Measure 20-210, the school bond measure to provide funding for 4J schools. Bond funds will be used to replace four aging school buildings, improve classroom technology, update instructional materials, upgrade security, repair schools, and more.
In a first step toward building the new schools, the district has issued a Request for Proposals, seeking architectural services to design the new schools.
The Request for Proposals seeks sealed proposals from architectural firms licensed in Oregon, to provide architectural, engineering, and other consulting services for the design of two new elementary schools to replace Howard and River Road / El Camino del Río Elementary Schools; one new middle school to replace Roosevelt Middle School; and a second middle school which will be a combination of replacement and renovation of the existing building for Arts & Technology Academy (the former Jefferson Middle School building).
All of the new schools will be built at the sites of the existing schools, followed by the demolition of the existing schools or wings upon the completion of the new buildings.
The district expects to break ground on the first projects in 2014 and have all four schools completed by 2017.
