What are we learning?
*Reading- This week students will connect information in an informational text in order to state the main topic and key details. Students will also identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic in order to increase comprehension. We will look at two books on the same topic in order to do this, but one will be fiction and the other will be nonfiction.
*Letterland- This week we will be learning about Walter Walrus (W), Fix it Max (X), and Yellow Yo-Yo Man (Y). We will focus on the sound one day and writing the letter the next day. We will continue to segment words to listen for the sounds that we hear in the beginning, middle and end of a word. In addition, we will continue to blend sounds together to read words.
*Math- This week we will finish up our addition unit. We will be reviewing with crafts, centers and activities and then take our unit assessment. Next up will be our unit on part/part whole and subtraction.
*Science – We are working through our unit called Is it Alive? Students will compare worms to other living and nonliving organisms and discuss how they move differently from other animals.
*Writing- This week we will continue to focus on what good writer’s look for when they write a sentence. We are also working on drawing pictures to match the sentences that we write. The picture should include a clear setting, characters, and labels. We are working to write a sentence that is read to them and spell the words correctly while also looking at the things a good sentence needs. (Capital letter, punctuation and finger spaces). Try this at home! See if you child can write a simple sentence that you dictate to them (for example: The big black dog sat on the mat.)
