Mrs. Ann Lewensten

Hello!  My name is Ann Lewensten and I am the proud teacher of students with multiple disabilities here at Cox Mill Elementary. I am originally from Minnesota where I received a BA and MA in Education. I love my home state, but have lived in North Carolina for the last 22 years.  I was a stay-at home mom for 10 years to two amazing young men named Carter (18) and William (16) and returned to the classroom in 2013!

I am so very proud of our students and our program here at CMES.  I couldn't even begin to educate and advocate for my students without the help of the BEST teaching assistants in the county.  Mrs. Emily Cook and Mrs. Rhonda Chambers.  Our team approach to learning makes each day different, exciting, and fun!! The students love them as much as I do and I feel more than blessed to work with them on a daily basis.

We believe very strongly that an inclusive education is valuable for all kids.  We spend time in the regular education setting with our same age peers to build friendships, practice goals and generalize our communication skills. Each school year we bring in all of our typical classrooms at Cox Mill to meet our students and teach them about our abilities.  This is such an important way to educate all kids and to create the sense of acceptance and understanding at a young age.

Some of our favorite school activities are the Special Olympics, SPREAD the WORD, and our Peer Helpers.  We feel very blessed to be part of the Cox Mill community and look forward to a wonderful 2022-2023 School year.
