• Welcome to Kindergarten!

    Hello Families!

*Field trip notes for 10/10- You are WELCOME to join us at the Pumpkin Patch, but you MUST drive yourself there, and you may NOT follow the bus.  You will meet us there at 10am and pay at the door.  You will get to stay with your child the whole time.  You may take your child with you from the farm in your car, but your child will receive a “tardy” for the early dismissal.  This is not a big deal, but I need you to be aware that your child will receive a tardy. Thanks!

*We have a new lunch schedule this year in order to keep the number of parents in the building down.  There will be NO EXCEPTIONS ALLOWED for the school. Please only join us on this schedule.  Thank you for understanding!

At this time, Mrs. Martin's class will guarantee to be in the cafeteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays and every other Friday so please come on these days.  If it’s a Friday you want to come, please check with me.  This Friday (today) was our day to eat outside so next Friday we can’t.  When it’s cold or rainy we will be in the cafeteria of course. 😊

*Attached is an explanation of what to expect for the progress report that will come home on Monday and the report card which will come home after our first quarter ends.  Please look it over before the report card comes out so that the reports will make a bit more sense to you!  A hard copy will be coming home with the report card at the end of the 1st 9 weeks.

There will also be a Dibels report that will come home.  We will discuss these reports at our conferences in the month of October.  Please save your questions for our conference.  The conference sign up will be coming at a future date.

    What are we learning?

*Reading-  This week we will use the pictures & words in a text in order to comprehend what is happening in the story.  We will look at the author and illustrator to understand how they work together to create a story and we will use our 5 finger retell to remember a story we have read.  We will use the book The Three Billy Goats Gruff in order to help us learn these strategies.

*Letterland-   This week we will continue to introduce each letter in depth.  We will focus on the sound one day and writing the letter the next day.  This week we will cover both the long A and D (Mr A and Dippy Duck).   The children will learn the letters, songs, story, action trick and much more!

*They can access Letterland at home by going to the Cox Mill home page, going to Clever, signing in with their username and password, and then choosing letterland.  They have asked to play these game and activities at home!  😊

*Math-  This week in math we will begin Unit 2.  Unit 2 focuses on developing the children’s understanding of numbers and quantities.  We will do this by exploring each number in depth.  The children will learn different ways to represent each number, how to write the numeral, and to manipulate numbers with hands on center activities.  This week we will look at numbers 1-5.

*Science- This week we will continue in our study of using positional words to describe where an object is located.  We will use the book Rosie’s walk to help us with these concepts!

*Writing-   This week we will continue to focus on writing letters correctly!  Please work with your child at home on writing their name with only the first letter capital and the rest of their name lowercase!  We will do this at school too!  😊.

Letters we have learned: C, A (both long and short), D
