    Curriculum

    Curriculum areas we will focus on this year are Scientific Method, Cells, Heredity, Body Systems, Homeostasis, Forces, Motion, Simple Machines, Atmosphere, Weather, and Climate.  My school website will be updated multiple times during the week. There you will be able to see dates of upcoming tests, quizzes, projects and homework.      Numerous handouts, warm ups and worksheets will serve as reference and study guides for all tests, quizzes, homework, and projects.

    Supplies

    Students are expected to come to my class prepared with primary school supplies: eraser, pencils, loose leaf paper, and notebook.   For Science, students must have a dedicated  single subject notebook and pocket folder.  The notebook is used to record daily warm-ups and complete in class assignments, experiments, and record lecture notes.  The pocket folder will be used to sort, organize and store handouts, worksheets, and in class assignments.  

     

    Supplies we could use in my Science classroom:  Kleenex, balloons (medium to large sizes), food coloring, plastic cups, plastic sandwich bags ,hand sanitizing wipes, stirring sticks, elmers glue,     

    Grading Scale  A: 90 - 100      B: 80 - 89      C: 70 - 79     D: 60 - 69        F: Below 59                   Weighting of Grades:  Homework: 20%  Classwork: 40%     Quiz/ Test/ Projects: 40%

    • One Project will be assigned during each quarter.   A detailed rubric will be provided for each project. Projects are assigned 4-5 weeks in advance with a verbal student reminder every single day.  

    • Tests and quizzes are announced several days in advance and posted on the front and side bulleting boards and on my school webpage.    There will be 5-6 quizzes per quarter.   If a student is absent the day of a quiz, they will be take the quiz the next day he/she are present in class.

    • Homework will have a dedicated board with the date issued and due. A reminder will also be posted on the front board and on my webpage.   There will be 5-6  homeworks issued per quarter.  Homeworks are always due the next day.  Late Homeworks will receive grade no higher than 70.

    • Students and parents can access my school website to review announcements regarding science tests, quizzes, and homework. Practice tests, practice quizzes and recommended websites will be posted there and updated weekly along with resources ( websites ) for projects.

    • In my classroom, there will be an assigned area ( folders ) for students to pick up missed homework. It is the responsibility of the student when they are absent to check the homework board, obtain copies, complete and turn in the next day of class. Copies will remain there the entire quarter.

    • Labs that count as grade – students will not be required to make these up if absent day of the lab.

    • Text Books: We do not have textbooks assigned or available for students.

    • Conferences can be scheduled during my planning period on _best to email to set up time with our team_______________.

    •  Students will be provided several handouts on their first day of school. Pls complete all forms and return ASAP

    •  Technology in the Classroom: There will be NO class lessons where students will be allowed to use their own personal technology. Students will use assigned chromebooks for all uses of technology.   Cell phones  can only be used with teacher permission.   It will be very rare that I allow cell phones to be used in the classroom.   Most lessons involving technology I will be using school chromebooks.

    I will be using this free texting service to send out reminders to parents and students.   PARENTS: When you sign up, please reply with your first and last name and the name of your child ( For example, Joe Smith, parent of Kelly Smith). STUDENTS: When you sign up, use your first and last name.   Note: I nor anyone else will see your phone number or email address.  I can not reply nor send texts to individual emails using REMIND.    You can not reply to the text message sent.  You do not need to set up an account.

     Classroom Rules and Procedures

       

    1. Bring science notebook to class each day.

    2. Come prepared to class ( book, paper, pencil ) and arrive on time.

    3. Go directly to your seat upon arriving.   Seats are assigned with students changing seats only upon teacher approval.

    4. Complete warm up after you enter and are seated at beginning of class. 

    5. Record all board notes and warm ups in your science notebook.

    6. Raise your hand before speaking and keep your hands and feet to yourself.

    7. Respect other students and their property.

    8. Take responsibility for your actions and work.

    9. Complete all homework and turn in on time.

    10. Contribute positively to the classroom discussions and overall classroom environment.

    11. Follow directions on first request when given.
