Kindergarten Unit 5 – Geometry

Unit Overview

Content Focus –

Students develop ideas about 2D and 3D shapes and work to describe, compose, and decompose them.

Looking Back…

Students bring with them a great deal of informal experience with geometry.  Many will have an intuitive sense of how shapes are the same and different, and this unit will build on that experience to further develop their spacial sense.

Looking Forward…

In first grade, students will focus on quadrilaterals and triangles as they build upon their knowledge of shapes, their attributes and how they can be composed and decomposed.  Students explore the relationship of 2-D and 3-D shapes, and match geoblocks to outlines of their faces, pictures and drawings.
