Unit Overview |
---|
Content Focus –Students develop ideas about the attributes of 2-D and 3-D shapes and how these attributes determine their classification. Additionally, they work on linear measurement, square measurement, the measurement of angles and volume. |
Looking Back…Students have worked developing an understanding of why it is important to have standard units of measure and had exposure to the use of rulers, yardsticks and meter sticks. Students should be familiar with several 2-D shapes and able to identify some of the attributes of these shapes. |
Looking Forward…In Grades 4 and 5 students will work to define, compare and categorize polygons. They will understand that there are multiple measurements for a given polygon (area, angles, perimeter, etc.). |
