Unit Overview |
---|
Content Focus –Students work to compose and decompose shapes in different ways and to sort and classify them based on attributes. Students will work with 2-D and 3-D shapes, as well as beginning to visualize the structure of rectangular arrays. |
Looking Back…The geometry units in 1st grade emphasized careful observation and description of geometric shapes. Students worked with several types of 2-D and 3-D objects, as well as describing shapes in their classroom and elsewhere. |
Looking Forward…In Grades 3 and 4 students will work to define, compare and categorize polygons. They will expand their understanding of arrays in 3rd grade as they explore multiplication and division. Rectangular arrays are important models that students will use to anchor their understanding for the next several years. |
