1st Grade Unit 2 – Geometry

Unit Overview

Content Focus –

Students work to compose and decompose shapes in different ways and to sort and classify them based on attributes.  Students will work describing, identifying and comparing 2-D shapes.

Looking Back…

The geometry work in Kindergarten emphasized observing and describing shapes.  Students used informal language to describe and compare shapes, and explored the idea that shapes can be decomposed into different shapes.

Looking Forward…

Later in the 2nd grade and beyond, students will work with 2-D and 3-D shapes, continuing to develop language to describe and classify shapes based on their attributes.
