School board will vote on approval of 2021–22 calendar in April
Key dates for next school year are set, pending board approval of the 2021–22 academic calendars. The first day of school will be on a different day than usual this fall.
- Transition Day (Selected Grades): Thursday, Sept. 9
- First Day for All Students: Friday, Sept. 10
- Winter Break: Dec. 20–31 (Jan. 3 is also a no-school day)
- Spring Break: March 21–25
- Last Day of School: Friday, June 17 (unless school closure makeup days are needed)
Traditionally Eugene School District 4J begins school on the Wednesday after Labor Day, sometimes with a transition day for selected grades the preceding day. In 2021, the Tuesday and Wednesday after Labor Day fall during Rosh Hashanah. While the district does not close schools during the year for major religious holidays, by policy and practice the district seeks to avoid scheduling important unique events for students on such days.
The proposed calendars place the transition day on Thursday and the first day of classes for all grades on Friday, to avoid this conflict for students.
The school board is slated to vote on approval of the 2021–22 academic calendars at its next regular board meeting on April 21.
