For now, show school ID or just tell bus driver you’re a student
Students ride free! Lane Transit District (LTD) now offers free transportation for local students.
For now, students can ride for free by showing the bus driver their school identification card or simply telling the driver where they are a student. At a future point students will be required to show a pass or app to board the bus, but the transit district has extended the time before this is rolled out in order to ensure students have access to bus service without disruptions.
All students in kindergarten through 12th grade can ride LTD buses for free. K–12 students may ride anywhere, anytime, not only to and from school but also to after-school activities and jobs in the Eugene–Springfield metro area. LTD’s new free student ridership program began September 1.
LTD notes, “A student transit pass can make it easier for families to get around town by reducing their transportation costs and the demands on parents to transport their children to school and activities. An additional goal is to create life-long transit users to decrease transportation impacts on our environment.”
The free student transit fares are made available through a grant to LTD from the State of Oregon’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) approved through House Bill 2017.
