What’s On the Menu? School Meals Are Changing

Fall school menus show changes, with more to come over time

Eugene School District 4J is making changes to our school food services incrementally over time, as school food service management is brought in-house after more than 20 years of contracting with large food services management companies.

Some changes already are seen in school menus planned for the fall. 4J Nutrition Services provides healthy, fresh and local options including unlimited fruits and vegetables with every meal. New offerings include intentional vegetarian options every day and menu items such as fresh-baked artisan scones, scratch-cooked chili, yakisoba noodles with chicken or tofu, and 100% beef or black bean burgers.

Over time, students will enjoy more scratch-made items, fewer highly processed foods, and a greater offering of locally grown and produced foods. Feedback will be requested as new items are tested and procurement of more local foods becomes available.

Menus are subject to change; the online menu will have the most current information. Menus for September 2019 are available online in the Titan Family Portal: Select “Check District Menu,” enter “Eugene” in the search field, then click on the district name. Filter to your student’s school, use the arrows to rotate to the menu week desired, and select Breakfast or Lunch to see the current menu. Hover over any item to see nutrition information, or use filters for allergens and dietary restrictions.

Stay tuned for more updates as the district’s transition to local management of school nutrition services progresses.
