District considering options to recover lost instruction time
Oregon has been facing unusually severe winter weather. Like most other Oregon districts, Eugene School District 4J already has had an unprecedented number of no-school days due to hazardous weather—and winter isn’t over yet.
This year’s calendar plans for weather days to be made up at the end of the school year, and the district does expect to restore at least three school days in June. However, given the unusually high number of days, the district is looking at possible alternatives for recovering lost instruction time.
All options for meeting state instructional time requirements are being considered, including possibilities such as adjusting daily schedules or making up school days before the end of the year.
When these decisions are made and an adjusted calendar is approved by the school board, the plan will be widely communicated through the district website, social media, news media, email, and more. Thank you for your patience and understanding in these unusual circumstances.
