1 Newcomer, 3 Incumbents Elected to School Board

Nittler elected; Hays, Torrey, Walston re-elected

The Eugene School Board will have one new member and three returning members for the 2015–2019 term.

Eileen Nittler was elected to replace Craig Smith in Position 4 over two other candidates, Scott Landgreen and John Baumann. Outgoing director Craig Smith, who has served on the school board for 20 years, did not seek re-election. Nittler is a social worker, a current member of the district’s equity committee, and an active school volunteer. She will be sworn in as a school board member in July.

Board vice chair Alicia Hays was re-elected to Position 1, which she has held since January 2007. Hays was unopposed on the ballot.

Board chair Jim Torrey was re-elected to Position 5, in which he has served since July 2007, over two challengers, Kevin Cronin and David Nickles.

Mary Walston was re-elected to Position 7, defeating challenger Colin Farnsworth. Walston has served on the school board since September 2009.

The four-year terms to which Nittler, Hays, Torrey and Walston were elected begin on July 1, 2015. Director positions 2, 3 and 6, currently held by Anne Marie Levis, Beth Gerot and Jennifer Geller, will be on the ballot in May 2017. The 4J school board is elected from the district at large, not from geographic regions. Registered voters who live within the Eugene School District may vote on all 4J board positions on the ballot.

This initial information is from the unofficial vote count of the May 19, 2015, election. The county clerk will certify the election results by June 8.
